What is Blower Door Testing?
Energy Efficiency Testing for Your Building
Green Guard blower door testing measures airtightness of a building's air barrier. This is a test performed by one of our certified Blower Door Technicians and is meant to measure the energy efficiancy of a building. A specialised Blower Door Testing fan is installed on an exterior door and used to create a pressure differential. Then specialized instruments measure the air leakage rate. The test will help to find any leaks in your building envelope, and check that your project is meeting the latest Washington State Energy Code requirements.
How Blower Door Testing Works
Pre-Testing Procedures
Before the testing day, we will have a conversation with you about the process and gather some basic info about your project such as the square footage and any important details. We will then review the plans to create an accurate volume estimate for the test. Finally, we will address any questions or concerns you have about the process.
Blower Door Testing Day
One of our Blower Door Technicians will arrive and perform a building walk through, going over a checklist to make sure the reading results will be as accurate as possible. Our tech will choose the best exterior door to attach the calibrated fan. The blower door fan will then be used to pressurize and depressurize the building for leak measurement accuracy.
Analyzing Results and Issuing Documentation
Using our specialized instruments, we will gather and analyze the data needed to calculate your buildings airtightness. With this information we can recommend a plan of action to improve the buildings energy efficiency and identify any potential areas of concern.
Our tech will issue you a written report of the test results, including verified location and time stamp of the date of the test, signed by the testing agency for your records.
